Jonann C. Chiles was nominated by President George W. Bush to the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation in March of 2006 and her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 29, 2006. 

Mrs. Chiles has engaged in the private practice of law in Arkansas, Massachusetts and Texas, served as an Assistant Attorney General of Arkansas, and held the post of Chief Counsel for the Arkansas Department of Human Services.  Mrs. Chiles received her B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and her J.D. from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Dallas in 1989.  She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1989, the State Bar of Massachusetts in 1992, and the State Bar of Arkansas in 1993. 

Additionally, Mrs. Chiles is a member of the Eighth Circuit Bar Association, the Eastern and Western Federal Districts of Arkansas, the Eastern Federal District of Texas, and the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society. 

An active and respected member of the bar in Arkansas, Mrs. Chiles' professional affiliations include:  Federal Rules Advisory Committee for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals; Fellow, Arkansas Bar Foundation; Arkansas Bar Association Judicial Article Implementation Task Force; Arkansas Bar Association Judicial Nominations Committee; Arkansas Bar Association Lawyers for Literacy Committee; Arkansas Bar Association Statutory Revision Committee on Civil Matters; the Federalist Society; the Arkansas Pro Bono Partnership; the Arkansas Governor's Task Force on Juvenile Justice (1998); the Arkansas Health Services Commission (1998); and Arkansas Advocacy Services (1996-97).
