BASIC FUNCTION:

The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Office of Program Performance (OPP) is seeking undergraduate interns for full or part-time positions starting June 2009. LSC is a private, non-profit corporation established by Congress to provide funding for the provision of civil legal services to low-income persons. OPP works to ensure effective and efficient high-quality legal services delivery through a competitive grants process and through grantee performance reviews, which are guided by the LSC Performance Criteria, LSC regulations, and the ABA Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid. An intern will work in support of these functions and work directly with the OPP director and staff who are responsible for the LSC competitive grants process. The internships are available from June through August and from September through December 2009.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The interns will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Drafting/Editing training guides, manuals, and instructions
  2. Drafting/Editing memos and reports
  3. Conducting Internet research
  4. Printing documents and organizing files
  5. Mailing documents

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Applicants must be participating in a formal volunteer intern program in which they will receive academic credit at the educational institution in which they are enrolled. Ideal applicants will have excellent editing and writing skills.
