BASIC FUNCTION:
The Legal Services Corporation ("LSC"), www.lsc.gov, distributes federal funds to private legal aid programs across the nation for the provision of free civil legal services to indigent clients. LSC is a private, non-profit corporation established by Congress in 1974. The Office of Legal Affairs ("OLA") is the General Counsel for LSC.
Law clerks assist attorneys in all areas of OLA work including: interpretation of federal statutes and regulations regarding appropriations, federal grants and oversight of federally funded legal services; in-house non-profit corporation legal matters; and litigation matters. Clerks perform a variety of work as part of the legal team including legal research and writing.
At times there may be an opportunity for some law clerks to continue to work with OLA part time during the following school year.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
LSC is accepting applications from current law students. Ideal candidates will have excellent research and writing skills and an interest in public interest, government affairs, regulatory or administrative law. Preference is given for applicants beyond their first year of law school.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$20 to $22 / hour
