Veterans Day, 2014: Message from John G. Levi

WASHINGTON – LSC Board of Directors Chair John G. Levi  released the following statement in observance of Veterans Day:

“On Veterans Day, we honor and express our profound gratitude to the millions who have served in the armed services of this nation. We salute their heroism and thank them for their service. Their bravery keeps alive the values of our Founding Fathers.

We must also support veterans in their many challenges, including legal needs. LSC-funded legal aid providers are gateways for veterans in need of civil legal assistance with issues such as benefits, housing, domestic and family matters, and employment.

In 2010, LSC launched StatesideLegal.org, the first national website that focuses exclusively on federal legal rights and legal resources important to veterans. This free service is devoted to helping military families and veterans access a wide array of legal information and assistance. LSC has also developed a veterans legal aid awareness campaign with the Veterans Affairs Department’s Readjustment Counseling Service, and supported a myriad of our grantees’ special programs that increase access to civil legal resources, health clinics, housing opportunities, and more. LSC has also partnered with the American Bar Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to unveil a pilot program that helps reduce the current backlog facing veterans seeking disability benefits.

LSC remains committed to serving veterans. By working to protect the legal rights of the men and women in uniform who have sacrificed for our nation, we are ensuring that their service is not forgotten.

Please join us today in recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans and our military.”
