Video: Father Pius Pietrzyk Discusses His New Role as LSC Board Vice Chair

Father Pius Pietrzyk, O.P., has been appointed as LSC’s new Vice Chair. He succeeds Martha Minow, former Dean of Harvard Law School and the school’s current 300th Anniversary University Professor.

Father Pius has served on LSC Board of Director since 2010. He has regularly moderated panel discussions hosted by LSC, spoken about the importance of legal aid at congressional briefings, and taken on leadership roles such as co-chairing LSC’s Disaster Task Force.

When asked about his new role as Vice Chair, Father Pius highlighted his vision of fostering partnerships to bridge the justice gap through collaboration. He said that far too many Americans have “life-changing legal issues and they need access to the court systems, which means they need access to lawyers, and far too few of them have that kind of access.”

In addition to his role as LSC Vice Chair, Father Pius is a priest of the Order of Preachers (the “Dominicans”) and serves as the Chairman of the Department of Pastoral Studies and as Assistant Professor of Canon Law at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, CA. Prior to entering the Dominican Order in 2008, he worked for three years in the Corporate and Securities practice of Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago. He obtained his law degree from the University of Chicago and holds a Doctoral Degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Rome).
