Legal Aid Aims to Fill NE Ohio Needs During Pandemic

Steven McGarrity, Community Legal Aid's executive director, said last month that the organization was bracing for a potential uptick in domestic violence cases.

“We are generally concerned about victims of domestic violence and what this is going to be doing to them (while) trapped at home with their abusers," he said. "We’re also concerned there won’t be a surge, and people won’t act on it because they think no help is available under the circumstances. They shouldn’t assume there’s no help for them.”

Although Legal Aid’s offices have been closed, staff can be reached via a helpline: 1-800-998-9454 during operational hours. Applications can be submitted anytime online at https://www.communitylegalaid.org/apply.
