MEDIA ADVISORY: Wisconsin Governor, Chief Justice to Address LSC Board

Washington, DC -- Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court are scheduled to address the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) during the Board's meeting in Milwaukee, July 29-31.

LSC is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was established in 1974 to promote equal access to justice and to ensure high-quality civil legal services are available to low-income Americans. Corporation grants are distributed to 136 nonprofit legal aid programs across the nation, including two in Wisconsin -- Legal Action of Wisconsin, based in Milwaukee, and Wisconsin Judicare, based in Wausau.

Chief Justice Abrahamson will be the keynote speaker at a reception on July 29 hosted by Legal Action of Wisconsin. The 5:30 p.m. reception will be held at the United Community Center, 1028 South 9th Street, in Milwaukee.

Governor Doyle will be the LSC Board luncheon speaker on July 30. The noon luncheon will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 333 West Kilbourn Avenue, in Milwaukee.

The Board's agenda includes Board committee meetings, a presentation by Legal Action of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Judicare, and a Round Table Discussion with seven executive directors of LSC-funded programs on the challenges and opportunities facing legal services programs.
