Private Attorney Involvement: National Data

LSC requires its Basic Field grantees to spend at least 12.5% of their Basic Field funding on Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) to encourage the involvement of private attorneys in the delivery of legal assistance to eligible clients. On a national level, the ratio of compensated to uncompensated attorneys accepting case referrals of LSC grantees has remained relatively consistent over the past five years. However, as a whole, PAI has decreased slightly over this period of time. States vary in their private attorney involvement strategies. Some may rely more heavily on compensated attorneys than on Pro Bono attorneys.

This dashboard provides data related to PAI, but please note, the data is only available for LSC Basic Field grantees. Data shown reflects the number of attorneys accepting referrals, which is the number of attorneys engaged in active casework.
