LSC’s Largest-Ever Innovations in Technology Conference Will Come to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC—The Legal Services Corporation’s (LSC) 24th annual Innovations in Technology Conference (ITC), the largest event dedicated to expanding access to justice through tech, will be held February 1-3 in Charlotte, North Carolina. This will be the biggest in-person ITC event to date, with over 700 attendees from 49 states, four U.S. territories, the District of Columbia and Canada in attendance at the Charlotte Convention Center.
The two-and-a-half-day conference features over 50 sessions and 140 speakers, with 18 sessions available to stream for free online. Technologists, legal aid advocates, court personnel, law school professors, pro bono coordinators and other professionals will gather to share information about a wide range of technology projects to promote access to justice and high-quality legal services for low-income people.
Session topics include artificial intelligence (AI), impact measurement tools, court technology innovations, cybersecurity, and virtual legal assistance models. ITC’s keynote speaker will be Elise Roy, a deaf human-centered designer, former lawyer, author and motivational speaker whose expertise has informed the work of companies like Marriott, Google and Fannie Mae.
“This conference is an annual gathering place for tech innovators and champions of access to justice to share what they’ve learned with industry leaders and legal services providers from all corners of the country and beyond,” said LSC President Ron Flagg. “The power of this event comes from the ingenuity and enthusiasm of the legal tech community and their desire to collaborate in order to expand legal services for low-income Americans.”
“As LSC celebrates our 50th anniversary this year, ITC has been a key vehicle to advance our mission to help legal aid providers better leverage limited resources to serve as many Americans as possible,” Flagg continued.
Accessing legal help continues to be impossible for most low-income Americans. LSC’s most recent Justice Gap report found that low-income Americans received no or insufficient legal help for 92% of their civil legal problems. Nationally, 74% of low-income households faced at least one civil legal problem—an increase from pre-pandemic numbers.

In addition to the streaming sessions, a panel discussion from the event, “Artificial Intelligence for Self-Help and Legal Aid,” will be released as an episode of LSC’s “Talk Justice” podcast on February 13. The panel is moderated by Director of Innovative Design for the Program on Law and Innovation at Vanderbilt Cat Moon who will be joined by Quinten Steenhuis, practitioner in residence at Suffolk LIT Lab; Sam Harden, program manager at Pro Bono Net; and Scheree Gilchrist, chief innovation officer at Legal Aid of North Carolina.
