LSC Announces 30th Anniversary Celebration November 30-December 1

Thursday, July 29, 2004

July 29, 2004

In commemoration of the enactment of the Legal Services Corporation Act in 1974, LSC President Helaine M. Barnett has announced that LSC will hold a major two-day event, November 30-December 1, in the nation's capital to celebrate the Corporation's 30 years of service to the poor and to discuss the future of legal services.

The executive directors of all 143 LSC grantees, as well as former LSC Presidents, Board members, and other legal aid leaders from across the country, as well as members of the judiciary, Congress and the Executive Branch are being invited to an open house at LSC's new national headquarters on November 30th, which will be followed by a plenary session and special reception in the evening. The historic gathering provides an occasion for invitees to reflect on the legal services community's past accomplishments and discuss how to meet the present-day challenges of providing access to civil justice.

On December 1st, legal services grantees' leaders will participate in substantive panel discussions to share ideas and brainstorm ways to better serve low-income Americans with civil legal problems. The 30th anniversary event immediately precedes the National Legal Aid & Defender Association's annual conference.

A detailed schedule of events will be posted in the near future.
