LSC Appoints Communications Manager

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Washington, DC—The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) announced today the appointment of Elizabeth Arledge as communications manager in the LSC Office of Government Relations and Public Affairs.  Ms. Arledge will oversee the Corporation’s website and social media and edit the Corporation’s newsletter, LSC Updates.

“Elizabeth brings us great experience in communications as we seek to inform our stakeholders  about the  work of LSC-funded programs and the importance of access to justice,” LSC President James J. Sandman said.

Prior to joining the Government Relations office, Ms. Arledge served as an analyst/coordinator of special projects in the LSC Office of Program Performance.  She provided support to LSC-funded programs in the areas of disaster preparedness and response and foreclosure prevention, and she managed the Herbert S. Garten Loan Repayment Assistance Program, which helps legal aid programs recruit and retain attorneys.

Ms. Arledge previously was director of communications and resource development at Disability Rights Oregon; director of development and communications at the Legal Aid Justice Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, and director of communications for the National Legal Aid & Defender Association. She also has worked as a consultant providing communication strategies.  She began her career as a news and feature reporter at The Daily Courier in Forest City, North Carolina.

Established by Congress in 1974, LSC is the single largest funder of civil legal assistance in the nation. The Corporation’s mission is to provide equal access to justice and to ensure the delivery of high-quality civil legal aid to low-income Americans. LSC grants help address the civil legal needs of the elderly, victims of domestic violence, veterans seeking benefits to which they are entitled, persons with disabilities, tenants facing unlawful evictions, and other civil matters.
