Legal Services Corporation

The Legal Services Corporation is the single largest funder of civil legal services in the nation. Established by Congress, LSC operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans. The grants are awarded to nonprofit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. The legal aid programs address the civil legal needs of the elderly, veterans and military families, victims of domestic violence, people with disabilities, tenants and homeowners facing foreclosure or eviction, victims of natural disasters, and others.

FY 2014 Grantee Budget Allocations

On January 17 the President signed the FY 2014 Appropriations legislation (Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014 - HR 3547) passed by Congress last week. The legislation includes $365 million for LSC as we explained in our email to you last week. This is 6.1855% higher than the LSC’s FY 2013 appropriation for Basic Field. There will NOT be any additional sequestration or rescission to reduce this number for FY 2014.

Here is the chart outlining the funding (within a few dollars) available to each grantee in 2014.
