Technology and Innovation

Building the future of legal services

Leveraging Technology for Legal Services

LSC-funded organizations turn away half the people who are eligible to receive services, simply due to lack of resources.

While we continue to try to fill this funding gap, technology and innovation are key components to helping more people navigate the complex legal system.

Expanding Where and Who Can Help

We need more lawyers providing legal services. Plain and simple. But when more than 90% of low-income Americans’ civil legal needs are going unmet, we need other solutions — other problem solvers — too.

Medical-Legal Partnerships

Any doctor can help heal a senior citizen’s fractured arm. What they can’t do is force a landlord to fix the broken steps that caused the senior’s fall. But a lawyer can.

For decades, partnerships between medical and legal services providers have been improving the health of Americans across the country. LSC is proud to partner with the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership to promote and expand this work.

Justice Workers

Rarely will a doctor give a vaccine to a child. The doctor won’t weigh you or draw your blood or take your x-ray photos. This work is done by other medical professionals — nurses, medical techs, physicians’ assistants.

The same can be true in law. While you need a lawyer to stand with you and argue a case in court, other legal professionals can help you fill out paperwork or explain your rights in certain situations.

Across the country, waves of legal advocates — or justice workers — are being trained and deployed. LSC is proud to partner with Frontline Justice and others to promote and expand this work.
