LSC Appoints New Director of Media Relations

Washington, DC—The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) announced today the appointment of Carl Rauscher as director of media relations.  A senior member of the Government Relations and Public Affairs team, Mr. Rauscher will help lead the organization’s overall communications activities.  

“Carl’s reputation for excellence precedes him,” said LSC President James J. Sandman. “As a seasoned print and broadcast journalist who also has experience on Capitol Hill, he brings expertise that will help LSC achieve its mission of promoting access to justice for all Americans.”

Prior to joining the LSC staff on April 9, Mr. Rauscher was deputy director of communications and media relations for the American Bar Association.  His more than 30 years of experience as a journalist include serving as news and politics editor for Cox Newspapers’ Washington bureau, as Washington and politics editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as executive editor of the Fulton County (Georgia) Daily Report, and as a news editor for CNN. 

He received his B.A. from Bethany College and holds a Ph.D. in English and Philosophy from Emory University.

Established by Congress in 1974, LSC is the single largest funder of civil legal assistance in the nation. The Corporation’s mission is to provide equal access to justice and to ensure the delivery of high-quality civil legal aid to low-income Americans. LSC grants help address the civil legal needs of the elderly, victims of domestic violence, veterans seeking benefits to which they are entitled, persons with disabilities, tenants facing unlawful evictions, and other civil matters.

Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974. For 50 years, LSC has provided financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. The Corporation currently provides funding to 131 independent nonprofit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
