Pine Tree Legal Assistance Executive Director and Staff Talk Legal Aid Live on NPR Radio Show
“Maine Calling,” a radio show on Maine’s NPR broadcasting station, featured a segment focused on LSC-grantee Pine Tree Legal Assistance (PTLA) on February 23. Representing the largest and oldest legal aid provider in Maine, PTLA executive director Nan Heald, Portland staff attorney Katie McGovern, and website coordinator Kathleen Caldwell joined host Jennifer Rooks to speak about access to justice and civil legal aid issues in the state.
During the 50-minute conversation, Heald and her staff fielded calls from listeners and discussed everything from legal aid technology to veterans legal assistance.
Senator Angus King made a surprise phone call to share his story of working for PTLA early in his legal career. Other notable callers include former PTLA litigation director and website creator Hugh Calkins, and Lois Reckitt, the long-time director Maine’s first domestic violence project.
