How federal eviction ban effects Ohio residents
Those facing eviction in Portage County now have a new path to fight losing their homes.
On Sept. 4, the Centers of Disease Control signed an order placing a moratorium on some evictions until the end of the year.
John Petit, managing attorney for the housing team at Community Legal Aid, a non-profit law firm serving northeast central Ohio, said the order was “big news."
“It doesn’t solve all of the problems, but it certainly gives some people who qualify more options,” he said.
However, the order places certain criteria on renters, and each adult listed on a lease, rental agreement or housing contract must provide a signed copy of a specific declaration to their landlord, property owner or other person with eviction authority over the property in question.
