LSC Solicits Public Comment on Report of Fiscal Oversight Task Force
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC—The Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), in a Federal Register notice published today, is seeking public comment on recommendations regarding how LSC carries out its fiscal oversight responsibilities.
The recommendations were presented to the LSC Board in a report from the Fiscal Oversight Task Force, established by the Board last year. The Task Force, made up of 17 members, including business leaders, attorneys, certified public accountants, grant makers, former inspectors general, and four LSC Board members, was co-chaired by LSC Board members Robert J. Grey Jr., and Victor B. Maddox. “We believe that the risk-based, integrated approach to financial oversight that the Task Force recommends will enable LSC to provide more meaningful and effective oversight,” they write in a letter accompanying the report.
The Board is seeking comment on the report for a 30-day period, ending September 30. The Board and LSC will review the public comments and the LSC Board will meet to discuss the Task Force’s recommendations, along with any comments received, with the goal of deciding in early 2012 on next steps, which may include acceptance or rejection of the Task Force’s recommendations.
