Federal judge in Cleveland says CDC overstepped authority with moratorium on evictions

A judge in Cleveland has overturned a federal order that's stopping evictions for scores of tenants across northern Ohio.
Federal Judge J. Philip Calabrese with the Northern District Court of Ohio ruled Wednesday that "the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention exceeded the scope of its authority" is issuing an eviction ban for tenants who have been financially harmed by the pandemic and have fallen behind on rent, despite seeking emergency government assistance.
