Legal Services of North Florida and some 20 other aid groups are asking the Florida Supreme Court to stop evictions statewide.
Following calls from legal aid services and housing advocates for a moratorium, Reno Justice Court reversed its decision to continue processing evictions through the coronavirus shutdown. Earlier this week, the Nevada Coalition of Legal Service Providers — which includes Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services, Southern Nevada Senior Law Program, Volunteer Attorneys of Rural Nevada and Washoe Legal Services — sent a letter to the governor’s office.
The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland also assists veterans, and is keeping its intake line open for them to report issues. The coronavirus threat is fluid, so it’s unclear if it could present any challenges unique to veterans, said Melanie Shakarian, the society’s director of development and communications.
Legal Aid closed all physical offices to the public on March 16 and instituted a mandatory remote work policy for all employees.

Legal Aid of Southeastern PA will continue to provide free civil legal aid in Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties, officials said. The non-profit legal organization will continue to accept applications through its toll-free telephone Helpline (877-429-5994) and online application portal (, according to Boehringer. Walk-in intake services are temporarily canceled at all seven locations through at least March 27.
Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas has closed offices in six locations and their related counties—Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, McKinney, Waxahachie, and Weatherford—through March 27 to the public in response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s state of disaster declaration. In-office appointments will only be scheduled on an as-needed basis. All clinics and outreach events also are suspended through March 27. The remaining offices and their related counties remain open to the public.
